13 June 2011:
Hello. I know that most branch lines were closed in 1964, but the Polton branch line was closed earlier. There was a farewell train to come up to the station, and the stationmaster; Mr. William Wood, was in his best official waistcoat, Mrs. Stewart opened the corner shop at the Square as there were so many visiting railway enthusiasts. To everyone's disappointment , the train stopped short at Kevock. At that time my mother; Mrs. Elizabeth Allan ran the post office at the other side of the Square, later combining the two functions in the corner shop premises. My family lived in the Mill house within Springfield paper mill, and we left for the Kent in January 1962, after my mother had run the shop for some years. I hope that this is helpful. David M Allan
