MacDuff Tartan

A family associated with the Earls of Fife, it is also a gaelic personal name derived from Mac Dhuibh, or 'son of Dubh'. The first Earldom was forfeited in 1353, but William Duff (c.1696 - 1763) began a new line in 1759. He built Duff House, near Banff, in 1740, and his son, the 2nd Earl, gave his name to the town of Macduff in 1784.
