Fair Isle has two lighthouses, at its northeastern and southwestern tips. It also has one of Britain's remotest golf courses, comprising six-holes laid out by the lighthouse-keepers for their own entertainment and now maintained by the locals. Television presenter Paul Murton played the course during his
Grand Tours of the Scottish Islands for the BBC in 2013. Life on the island was also portrayed in the two-part documentary
Fair Isle: Living on the Edge produced by BBC Scotland in 2016.
The population of Fair Isle is recorded as 64 (1961), 65 (1971), 58 (1981), 67 (1991), 69 (2001), 68 (2011).
