Extended Information
Tiree had an important role during the Second World War; Tiree Airport was requisitioned by the Royal Air Force and there was a concentration of Chain Home Radar stations on the island, at Barrapoll, Kilkenneth and Port Mor. These were augmented by a Chain Home Low station on Beinn Hough and succeeded in 1953 by a ROTOR station on Beinn Ghott.
