An area of plantation forest land in E Caithness, the Rumster Forest lies to the northwest of Lybster, between the Reisgill Burn and the A9 road to Thurso. Managed by the Forestry Commission, it was originally planted with spruce and pine, much of which has been felled. More recent planting includes larch, birch and rowan, promoting diversity. Wildlife includes pine marten, roe-deer, merlin, buzzards, crossbill and goldcrest. The forest is used for various recreational activities and is now managed by Forestry and Land Scotland.
