Morton Lochs

Three lochs in NE Fife, the Morton Lochs (North, South and West) lie a mile (1.5 km) south of Tayport and northwest of Tentsmuir. They were created for fish rearing in the early 20th century by diverting the Ninewells Burn into existing wet hollows amongst the sand dunes. Wildfowl and breeding birds were attracted from the nearby coast and Tay estuary, and in 1952 the lochs were designated a National Nature Reserve.
