Beinn Bhragaidh
(Beinn a' Bhragaidh)

A peak in the Sutherland district of Highland Council Area, Beinn Bhragaidh rises to 397m (1302 feet) 1¼ miles (2 km) northwest of Golspie. Overlooking that settlement, which is home to the Dukes of Sutherland, Beinn Bhragaidh supports a massive 33m (108 feet)-high statue of George Leveson-Gower, the 1st Duke (1758 - 1833), sculpted by Francis Chantrey (1781 - 1841) erected in 1838 on a base by William Burn (1789 - 1870). It has often been suggested that the statue be removed because of Leveson-Gower's involvement in the Highland Clearances.
