Loudoun Hill

A prominent hill of East Ayrshire, close to the boundary with South Lanarkshire, Loudoun Hill rises to 316m (1037 feet) 2½ miles (4 km) east of Darvel. The River Irvine turns west as it flows past the hill. Two battles of the Wars of Independence took place nearby; William Wallace beat the English in 1296 and Robert the Bruce repeated this feat in 1307.
