Magnum Centre, Irvine

A former leisure complex in Irvine (North Ayrshire), the Magnum Centre was located on the seafront, just east of where the River Irvine enters Irvine Bay, 1¼ miles (2 km) southwest of the town centre. Opened in 1976 by Bruce Millan, Secretary of State for Scotland, and costing £3.2 million, this was once the largest sports centre in Scotland. The complex included indoor and heated outdoor swimming pools, an ice-rink, a 1200-seat concert and sports hall, a 323-seat theatre and a fitness centre. During the 1980s the Magnum Centre became one of Scotland's top leisure attractions. It closed in 2016 and was demolished the following year.
