(Eilean Choraidh)

An long narrow uninhabited island lying within Loch Eriboll in NW Sutherland, Chorrie Island (Gael: Eilean Choraidh) is located a third of the way from the head of the loch, 6 mile (10 km) south of Durness. The island is ¾ mile (1.2 km) in length and rises to 23m (75 feet). During World War II this island became a bombing target for RAF pilots to practice in advance of a raid on the German battleship Tirpitz.
