Eilean Aigas

A forested riverine island surrounded by the River Beauly, Eilean Aigas lies just to the south of Crask of Aigas and 4½ miles (7 km) southwest of Beauly. Eileanaigas House, once a home of the Lovat Frasers, is located at the north of the island, accessed by a bridge from Hughton. In the 1830s this house was granted by Lord Lovat to the Sobieski Stuarts, two brothers who fraudulently claimed descent from Prince Charles Edward Stuart (1720-88). It was later rented by Sir Compton Mackenzie (1883 - 1972).
