Little Egypt

An area of the Morningside district of Edinburgh, Little Egypt lies to the east of Morningside Road and takes its name from the biblical associations of its street-names and from the Jordan Burn, which is now culverted in this area. Little Egypt lies to the south of the Lands of Canaan which most-likely got their name at the time of the Covenanters. To the south of Eden Lane and Canaan Lane today is Jordan Lane and Nile Grove, the latter stretching east almost to Egypt Mews. The Arts-and-Crafts style houses on Nile Grove are by Sir George Washington Browne (1853 - 1939).
