St Bride's Ring

St. Bride's Ring is a hill-fort in S Angus, originally classified as a broch by some authorities but as it lacks the structural details of a broch it has now been recognised as a ring fort, comparable with those of central Perthshire. It is located in woodland to the west of Kingennie House, a mile (1.5 km) south of the village of Wellbank and 2 miles (3 km) northwest of Monifieth. St. Bride's Ring is situated on a projecting spur with steep slopes all round except on the southeast where there is a level approach. Obscured by trees, the structure has an internal diameter of 15m (50 feet) and a wall composed of large boulders which is up to 2.5m (8 feet) in thickness and rising to between 0.3m and 1m (1-3 feet) in height, with the best preservation found on the south and east sides.
