Polkemmet Moor

A moorland and former industrial site in West Lothian, Polkemmet lies to the southwest of Whitburn. A colliery was sunk here from 1913, with production beginning in 1922, following the First World War. It reached its maximum output of 4000 tons / day in the 1950s, when nearly 1400 men were employed. However, losing money by the 1980s, it became a victim of the closures following the miner's strike of 1984.

Polkemmet Country Park lies 1¼ miles (2 km) to the north.
