Carberry HillA famous hill of East Lothian, Carberry Hill rises to 160m (524 feet) 1¼ miles (2 km) west of Elphinstone and a similar distance south of Wallyford. A stand-off between Mary, Queen of Scots (1542-87), and her Protestant Lords took place in 1567 and the point where the Queen surrendered, on the west flank of the hill, is now known as Queen Mary's Mount. Carberry Tower, once the home of the Lords Elphinstone, lies just to the west.
