Machrie River

(River Machrie)

A small river in the south of Islay in the Inner Hebrides, the Machrie River (also the River Machrie) rises as headstreams on the western slopes of Beinn Sholum and flows west through Glen Machrie to receive its principal tributary, the Glenegedale River, immediately to the south of Islay Airport. It then continues west for a further half-mile (1 km) to fall into Laggan Bay, having completed a course of 3 miles (5 km). A 2012 survey showed the river supports brown trout and a few salmon.
