Bosta Iron Age Village
(Bostadh Iron Age Village)

Located at the eastern end of Bostadh Bay, on the north coast of Great Bernera in the Outer Hebrides, is the Bosta (Bostadh) Iron Age Village. Exposed following gales in 1993, the village has subsequently been excavated by the University of Edinburgh, with the support of Historic Scotland. The excavation revealed a Norse settlement, in a remarkable state of preservation, built over earlier houses dating from the Iron Age. Although the actual village has been back-filled to protect it for future generations, the Bernera Historical Society has supported the construction of a replica of one of the prehistoric houses nearby, which was opened to visitors in 1999, and interpretation boards have been provided.
