Balta

An island to the east of Unst in the Shetland Islands, Balta is situated at the mouth of Balta Sound. It has an area of 80 ha (198 acres) and three hills, the highest of which at 44m (144 feet) lies behind Muckle Head. Antiquities on the island include a ruined broch at South Sail and the remains of a chapel formerly dedicated to the Norse Saint, St. Sunniva.
