Harperleas Reservoir

The highest of a network of reservoirs in the Lomond Hills of W Fife, Harperleas is located near the head of the Lothrie Burn, 4½ miles (7 km) northwest of Glenrothes. It was created in 1880 to supply fresh water to the towns of Kirkcaldy and Dysart on the south coast of Fife. Retained by an earth embankment dam, it extends to an area of 17.5 ha (43 acres). It is now the property of Scottish Water but is stocked with brown trout and forms a popular sports fishery.
