A small reservoir retained by an earth embankment dam in E Dumfries and Galloway, Winterhope lies on the course of the Winterhope Burn, 1¼ miles (2 km) north northeast of Fallford and 5½ miles (9 km) west southwest of Langholm. Opened in 1938, it is now operated by Scottish Water for the supply of drinking-water and covers an area of 8.4 ha (20 acres).
