King's Park
A park in a district of the same name, King's Park lies in Glasgow City, 1¼ miles (2 km) southwest of Rutherglen. The park extends to 40 ha (98 acres), representing part of the policies of Aikenhead House. It was given to the City of Glasgow in 1930 by house-building entrepreneur Sir John A. Mactaggart (1867 - 1956). The park includes some fine specimen trees, together with a walled garden. At the entrance to the walled garden is an unusual sundial, dated 1885, a copy of one of at Newbattle Abbey (Midlothian). This was presented by the Earl of Home shortly after the park opened.
