Balgreen

A small residential district of W Edinburgh, Balgreen lies between Stenhouse and Saughtonhall, 2½ miles (4 km) west southwest of the city centre. The Water of Leith demarks the southeastern extent of the area, while Saughton Park lies to the southwest. Balgreen Library and Balgreen Primary School occupy adjacent white-rendered buildings, the work of John Alexander Carfrae in 1929 and Edinburgh City Architect Ebenezer James MacRae in 1932. Balgreen had a station on the Corstorphine Branch from 1934 until the closure of that line in 1968. Since 2014 there has been a stop here on the Edinburgh Tram Line. Balgreen Bowling Centre was a venue for the Commonwealth Games held in Edinburgh in 1986.
