Johnnie Notion's Bod

One of a number of historic buildings around the coast of Shetland which were once used to house fisherman, Johnnie Notion's Böd is remotely located at Hamnavoe in the Northmavine district of the Shetland Mainland. It dates from the 18th century. Today it has been restored by the Shetland Amenity Trust to serve as a basic bunkhouse for visitors. It is named after John Williamson, an uneducated man who was known for his inventive mind, hence Johnnie Notions. He designed an inoculation against smallpox and thereby saved many lives.
