Dechmont Hill

A conspicuous hill in South Lanarkshire, Dechmont Hill rises to 186m (610 feet) a mile (1.5 km) south of Flemington and 2½ miles (4 km) northeast of East Kilbride. Its summit is marked by an Ordnance Survey triangulation pillar and is surrounded by the remains of an ancient hill-fort. The fort was once surrounded by several concentric ramparts, but these have been levelled by agricultural activity and the stones which once formed the structures within have been quarried to build nearby walls and repair roads. Gilbertfield Castle lies on its northwestern slopes, while the Dechmont Rifle Range is located to the north.
