A stream which rises on the Muir of Thorn in Central Perth and Kinross, the Gelly Burn flows northeast, passing through the settlement of Gellyburn, before entering the River Tay a half-mile (1 km) southeast of Caputh, having completed a course of 2½ miles (4 km).
