Discovery Point

Situated at Discovery Quay on the waterfront of the City of Dundee, Discovery Point is the home of Captain Robert Falcon Scott's famous RRS Discovery, one of the last wooden three-masted ships to be built in Britain and the first to be constructed specifically for scientific research. Built in Dundee, the Discovery was launched in 1901 as the research vessel of the British National Antarctic Expedition. Adjacent to the ship is a visitor centre with function facilities that features displays on the history of Captain Scott's first Antarctic expedition of 1901-04. The Polarama Room, opened by the explorer Sir Ranulph Fiennes in 1999, is a 'hands-on' interactive gallery that explores the geography of Antarctica.

Discovery Point run by Dundee Heritage Trust, a charity formed in 1985 to preserve and interpret Dundee's industrial past.
