Lerwick Airport

(Tingwall Airport)

Located on the A971 road at Tingwall, a half-mile (0.8 km) northwest of Veensgarth and 4 miles (6.5 km) northwest of Lerwick, Lerwick Airport opened in 1976, replacing a grass strip nearby. The airfield is owned and operated by the Shetland Islands Council. It has the International Air Transport Association (IATA) location code "LWK" and comprises a single asphalt runway, 764m (2506 feet) in length, with a small terminal, service buildings and an aircraft hangar. Scheduled inter-island flights operate from here to Fair Isle, Foula, Out Skerries (occasionally via Whalsay) and Papa Stour, with emergency flights to other islands.
