Prince's Beach
(Coilleag a' Phrionnsa)

A sandy beach on the west coast of Eriskay in the Outer Hebrides, Prince's Beach (Gael: Coilleag a' Phrionnsa, literally 'the Prince's cockle strand') is located a mile (1.5 km) south southwest of Haunn. It was here that Prince Charles Edward Stuart (Bonnie Prince Charlie) landed for the first time in Scotland on 23rd July 1745 having made the eighteen-day voyage from France aboard the 'Du Teillay'. From here he proceeded to Glenfinnan, where he was to raise his standard, marking the beginning of his attempt to reclaim the crown in the '45 Rebellion.
