Beinn Uraraidh

A prominent summit in the SE of Islay which rises to 456m (1496 feet). Beinn Uraraidh lies a half-mile (1 km) south of Loch nam Breac and a similar distance northwest of Loch Beinn Uraraidh. At its summit lies a cairn. The wreckage of a Fairey Firefly aeroplane remains strewn over the eastern slopes of the hill, extending for about a third-of-a-mile (0.5 km), it having crashed on 25th September 1951 killing the Australian crew of two who had been on a training exercise.
