Park or Park District is a residential area which surrounds and includes Park Circus in the West End of Glasgow. Park Circus is built around Woodlands Hill, a glacial drumlin which stretches from Charing Cross to the top of Kelvingrove Park. It reaches a height of 47m / 154 feet and overlooks the University of Glasgow. Built between 1855 and 1863, its architectural design is French and closely follows the area's contour lines. The skyline of the Circus is dominated by the distinctively white tower of the former Park Church and the taller Trinity Tower. Park Church was built 1856-58 to the designs of John T. Rochead (1814-78) but demolished in 1968 to be replaced by an office block, leaving only the soaring Gothic tower. Trinity College was originally built by Charles Wilson between 1856 and 1861 as the Free Church of Scotland's theological college but has now been converted into flats. Park was designated as a conservation area in 1970, with its boundaries extended in 1982 and again in 1990, now encompassing the entirety of Kelvingrove Park.
