A prominent triangular summit surrounded by the Galloway Forest in Dumfries and Galloway, Cairnsmore of Dee rises to 493m (1617 feet) 2½ miles (4 km) east of Clatteringshaws Loch and 3 miles (5 km) west southwest of New Galloway. The hill has craggy southeast and north faces.
