Knap of Howar

The site of a Neolithic settlement on the island of Papa Westray in the Orkney Islands occupied more than a thousand years before the Egyptians started building the Great Pyramid. Situated on the west coast of the island, a half-mile (800m) west of Holland House, its buildings are the oldest in Europe. It comprises two houses excavated in the early 1930s and again in the 1970s
