Trondra

An island connected by road bridges to the west coast of the Mainland of Shetland, from which it is separated by the Clift Sound, and to the island of West Burra. It has an area of 275 ha (680 acres) and provides shelter to Scalloway Harbour. Having suffered serious depopulation, this problem has been rapidly overturned thanks to its increased accessibility. The population has risen from 20 (1961) and 17 (1971) to 93 (1981), 117 (1991), 133 (2001) and 135 (2011).
