Allan Glen's School

Allan Glen, one of Glasgow's wealthiest property owners, left most of his fortune to be used in the building of a school for boys. Originally established as a technical training centre, The Allan Glen's School first opened its doors in 1853, and by 1882 it had become part of the Glasgow and West of Scotland Technical College, now the University of Strathclyde. By the 1970s it had lost its tradition of technical and scientific training, with the development of comprehensive education.
