Eilean Horrisdale

A small island within Loch Gairloch in Wester Ross, Eilean Horrisdale is located a half-mile (0.8 km) northeast of the small village Badachro, to which it provides shelter. It is by far the largest of several islets in the vicinity, in fact the largest in the loch. Eilean Horrisdale extends to 32.2 ha (79.6 acres) and reaches a height of 38m (124 feet). It was once the site of a fish-curing station and supported a population of 31 at the end of the 19th C. Today there is no permanent resident population, but there are several cottages which provide holiday accommodation.
