Samphrey

An uninhabited triangular-shaped island located to the northeast of the Shetland Mainland, Samphrey lies in Yell Sound, between Tofts Voe and Firths Voe, a mile (1.5 km) south of the island of Yell and 1¼ miles (2 km) northeast of the settlement Mossbank. It rises to 30m (98 feet) and extends to 66 ha (163 acres). Supporting a population of 36 in 1841, it was deserted by 1881. Now used only for grazing sheep, the remains of a few buildings can be seen, together with a small burial ground.
