A small uninhabited rocky island, Causamul (sometimes Cousamul, Cousmil or even Eousmil) is located 1½ miles (2.5 km) west of Aird an Runair on North Uist. The island reaches 9m (29 feet) in height and, in the past, was the location of an annual seal hunt.
The corruption Eousmil seems to have come about through a printer's error in Martin Martin's A Description of the Western Isles (1703), evidenced by differences between the contents list and main body of the text. The error has been repeated by subsequent authors.
