Erraid

A drying island to the west of the Ross of Mull, Erraid lies at the southern end of the Sound of Iona and is separated from the island of Mull by the Sound of Mull. An uninhabited island of approximately 1 sq. mile (3 sq. km) in area, it is referred to in the novel Kidnapped by Robert Louis Stevenson (1850-94), who visited as an apprentice engineer while his father and uncle were constructing the lighthouse on Dubh Artach. The island provided the shore station for this lighthouse and another on Skerryvore. It was also here that the stones were fabricated before they were transported to Dubh Artach to construct the lighthouse.
