Loch of Girlsta

The Loch of Girlsta is Shetland's largest (by volume) and deepest freshwater loch. It is located in the Central Mainland, immediately to the north northeast of the settlement of Girlsta and 3 miles (5 km) north of Gott. Its volume is 8.7 million cu. m (308 million cu. feet) while its maximum depth is 22.5m (74 feet). The A970 road runs along its western shore, while the loch contains a low-lying island towards its southern end. It drains to the south into Wadbister Voe.
