Penwhirn Reservoir

A reservoir of W Galloway, Penwhirn Reservoir was established on the course of the Penwhirn Burn in the 1950s to supply drinking water to Stranraer and district. It is located between Diddles Hill and Mark Hill, 3 miles (5 km) east of Cairnryan and 7 miles (11 km) northeast of Stranraer. The reservoir supports a recreational fishery for brown trout. An associated filter station lies below the dam, a quarter-mile (0.4 km) to the east.
