Holl Reservoir

A water body located to the south of the Lomond Hills in W Fife, Holl Reservoir lies 2 miles (3 km) northwest of Leslie and 3 miles (5 km) southwest of Falkland. Built in the 19th century it is the lowest of a string of reservoirs forming part of a scheme to supply water to Kirkcaldy and Dysart, lying next to the Lothrie Burn at a height of 200m (656 feet) above sea level. Retained by an earth embankment dam, Holl Reservoir has a maximum depth of 14m (46 feet) and extends to 18 ha (44 acres). Now operated by Scottish Water, the reservoir continues to supply drinking water, but is also stocked with brown and rainbow trout to provide a recreational fishery.
