The uninhabited, small island of Am Fraoch Eilean (also known as Castle Island) is located in the Sound of Jura which separates Jura from the Isle of Islay, Argyll and Bute Council Area. Situated off the southern end of Jura, it lies a mile (1.5 km) offshore from the settlement of Ardfin. It reaches a height of 20m (66 feet) above sea level and close to the highest point are the ruined remains of Claig Castle, once a stronghold of Clan MacDonald. To the east lies Brosdale Island, and both are owned by the Ardfin Estate.
