Cara
(Cara Island)

An uninhabited island of Argyll and Bute, Cara (Cara Island) lies to the south of the island of Gigha and is separated from the Kintyre Peninsula by the Sound of Gigha. The island has an area of 66 ha (153 acres) and rises to 56m (184 feet) at the Mull of Cara. Legend has it that in an attic of Cara House lives the 'Brownie of Cara', the ghost of a Macdonald murdered by the Campbells. Cara was frequented by the smugglers of Gigha, Jura and Islay during the 18th Century.
