Ferniehill

An area of public housing of S Edinburgh, Ferniehill occupies the crest of a ridge a quarter-mile (0.4 km) southeast of Moredun and a similar distance northeast of Gilmerton. The terraces of maisonettes and small blocks of flats which characterise this area date from the mid-1960s. A number of houses had to be evacuated in 2000, and subsequently demolished, when the collapse of ancient mine workings brought about dangerous subsidence.
