Newcastle

An outlying residential district (or precinct) of Glenrothes in Fife, Newcastle lies 1½ mile (2.5 km) west of the town centre, and a half-mile (1 km) south of Leslie on the opposite bank of the River Leven. Its takes its name from a farmstead which once lay in the south of the area. Glenrothes Municipal Golf Course extends to the south and this inspires Newcastle's street names, which include some of Scotland's finest golf courses (Barnton, Carnoustie, Gleneagles, Muirfield, Ralston, Ratho and Rosemount). Its population was 1140 in 1994. Newcastle Primary School was built in 1977 on Muirfield Drive.
