Eilean an Tighe

(House Island, Eilean an Taighe)

An island of the Shiant Island group in the Western Isles, Eilean an Tighe (or House Island) lies to the southwest of Eilean Mhuire and south of Garbh Eilean. It is joined to Garbh Eilean by an isthmus. Inhabited until the early 20th century, a single house remains almost intact, renovated in the 1920s as a summer-retreat by the author Sir Compton Mackenzie (1883 - 1972). The island provides grazing for sheep.
