Mhuire, Eilean

An uninhabited island which forms the easternmost of the Shiant Islands, Eilean Mhuire (or Mary's Isle) rises to 90m (295 feet) 9 miles (15 km) south of Kebock Head in Lewis. It is triangular in shape, surrounded by cliffs. Once inhabited but, despite its fertility, Eilean Mhuire is now used only for grazing. The ruin of St. Mary's Chapel lies towards the west of the island. The cliffs are home to sea-birds.
