Isle Head, Isle of Whithorn

A headland, peninsula and former island locating immediately to the southeast of Isle of Whithorn, Isle Head is the site of St Ninian's Chapel and an Iron-Age fort, now topped by a white-painted tower known as The Cairn, which forms a notable landmark. This gives rise to confusion whereby Isle Head is occasionally incorrectly referred to as Cairn Head, a locality which lies 1½ miles (2.5 km) to the north.
