Newmilns Snow and Sports Complex

Perhaps not the most likely location for a dry ski centre, the Newmilns Snow and Sports Complex lies on the slopes immediately to the north of the village of Newmilns in the Irvine Valley of East Ayrshire. Opened by Strathclyde Regional Council in 1975, operation of the centre transferred to East Ayrshire Council with local authority reorganisation in 1995. A period decline began following a lack of investment but, having been recognised as a facility critical to the local economy and following a local outcry, the Council invested £122,000 to upgrade the ski slope, a project completed in 2003. Operation passed to a local management committee in 2004, and an international-standard mountain board track opened in 2005.
