EynhallowThe 'holy island' of Eynhallow lies in the Orkney Isles between the Mainland of Orkney and Rousay. Surrounded by reefs and shoals, the island extends to 75 ha (185 acres) and is today a nature reserve noted for its bird life. At its centre stand the ruins of a chapel which may have formed part of an early Christian monastic settlement. Uninhabited since the late 19th Century, it had a population of 26 in 1841.
